Manchester United-aanvaller Antony is donderdagavond ontsnapt aan een rode kaart. Op bezoek bij Brighton & Hove Albion liet de Braziliaan zich in de tweede helft helemaal gaan.

Antony claimde in Brighton een vrije trap, maar vond geen gehoor bij de arbitrage van dienst. De voormalig Ajax-aanvaller reageerde zichtbaar gefrustreerd en maakte dat vooral duidelijk door tegenstander Alexis Mac Allister onderuit te schoppen. Dit deed hij middels een tackle op kniehoogte.
Naast zijn gemene overtreding schold Antony ook nog de assistent-scheidsrechter de huid vol. Voor beide vergrijpen had hij zomaar de rode kaart kunnen krijgen, maar scheidsrechter Andre Marriner gaf slechts geel en ook de VAR besloot niet in te grijpen.
Antony blijft overigens niet schadevrij. Hij werd gewisseld door manager Erik ten Hag én krijgt veel kritiek op social media.
