Standard Luik-directeur Pierre François is opgezet met de zaak van Eliaquim Mangala. De manager van de Waalse formatie had de centrale verdediger in de zomerstop graag verkocht aan Valencia, maar een twijfelend optreden van de Frans international gooit vooralsnog roet in het eten voor Standard.

François verwoordde krachtig: "Wat wil Mangala eigenlijk nog meer? Valencia is een absolute topclub in een topcompetitie. Hij zou er samen met zijn landgenoot Adil Rami in de verdediging kunnen spelen. Beseft Mangala niet dat hij op deze manier met zijn geluk aan het spelen is?"

Naar verluidt heeft Standard een overeenkomst met Valencia, maar twijfelt Mangala aan de overgang. Mede omdat zijn moeder bij een manager, die niet bij de bij de deal betrokken was, een exclusiviteitscontract tekende.
